Job Description

Blockworks is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in shaping our data infrastructure and driving innovation within the crypto industry.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing our data models and strategies. You will collaborate closely with engineering, research, and product teams to ensure the seamless flow and integrity of data across our platform.

Key responsibilities include owning data sourcing pipelines, architecting data warehousing solutions, and aggregating data from diverse sources. You will also design and implement robust ETL solutions, manage our PostgreSQL and Clickhouse databases, and contribute to technical leadership and knowledge sharing within the team.

We are looking for a proactive individual who can drive operational efficiency, automate routine tasks, and continuously improve data workflows. Your ability to foster cross-functional collaboration will be essential in leading key initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement data warehousing, ingestion, and sourcing strategies.
  • Design and implement ETL solutions, including accessing blockchain nodes and sourcing data from third parties.
  • Model internal schemas across PostgreSQL and Clickhouse databases.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to the engineering team.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve data workflows and automate routine tasks.
  • Collaborate with Research, Product, and Engineering teams on data-related initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and backend systems.

Qualifications

  • Significant knowledge of the crypto industry; considered crypto native.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with data modeling, schema design, data operations, and data warehousing.
  • Proven track record of building backend systems at scale with a focus on data processing and ingestion.
  • Strong expertise in Python, Go, Rust, and/or Typescript.
  • Incredibly strong expertise in SQL (ideally Parquet, Postgres, and Clickhouse).
  • Deep experience creating data warehouses at scale (100M+ rows per day).
  • Experience with DevOps tools and cloud solutions like Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or GCP.
  • Comfortable working with modern data orchestration tools like Airflow or Dagster.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL transformation frameworks such as dbt or SQLMesh.
